*Now, it is now your arena, immerse yourself into the process, you have listened against the background of the general question "How our current thinking and acting is terminating our future?" to the keynote by Dr. Martin Frick and the following contributions of the panellists.* The arena is yours

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:05:16 GMT):
Benjamin, can you see the stream?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:06:21 GMT):
It is accessible on Youtube live! I am impressed

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:06:45 GMT):
Intro question: - What is very much alive in you regarding the subject matter Climate Catastrophe and what has been said in the keynote?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:08:57 GMT):
What triggers me, of course, is the thought that we are in a situation where everyone is waiting for the other, while our children will be the ones who will suffer from our inability to act.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:09:47 GMT):
On the other hand, I am deeply grateful to the "Fridays for future" movement that reminds us that we have a task to fulfill.

kourosh.ghaffari (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:09:47 GMT):
Happy birthday Sebastian :)

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:12:41 GMT):
Happy birthday also, from me! What wasn't mentioned by Dr. Frick which led you to further thinking and reflections?

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:21:24 GMT):
I suppose you are currently listening to the panellist Sebastian Gaggero, right? Feel free whenever you want to comment and share your ideas and thoughts.

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:22:01 GMT):
We also need another ways of collaboration?

kristina.preiss (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:22:37 GMT):
Has joined the channel.

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:23:41 GMT):
What especially do you have in mind, Christian?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:24:18 GMT):
Of course, Martin could not go into all the connections individually in a keynote. In my opinion, we have to deal with many attack surfaces that we have to set in motion in one way or another. This includes the education system, which contributes to the fact that we do not understand connections - for example, business schools. The economic system that has an influence on the educational system and vice versa. The health care system that is dependent on both. And so on and so on. And so on, and so on. What I am missing is to answer these questions and that can only be done together: What do we want life to look like in 100 years? What outcome do we actually want to see? What should be the role of our systems and how should they work to achieve this hypothetical result? Without these clues, I find it quite difficult to experiment forward.

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:26:59 GMT):
Cooperation such as in software open source communities, alternatives to companies in which one is paid

bluhumi (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:27:02 GMT):
I guess in these times, we have to focus on enjoying the process instead of the results. Ohterwise one could go depressed and crazy. that correlates to new forms of colab and grasroot movements. #togetherisbetter :yellow_heart:

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:29:01 GMT):
I agree @bluhumi , however, a process is nothing worth if you run around in circles. That's why i request to think about a direction. If you ever end there is the process of experimenting forward and address whatever happens on the way (obstacles).

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:30:48 GMT):
Very interesting distinctions made by Dominik and Markus. Can it be both ... and?

franziska.seibel (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:37:38 GMT):
I think we are very focused on getting everything right these days and often want to find the right way directly. But that often doesn't exist. But there are meeting points that we can agree on with others. We should communicate these clearly to the outside and invite people to them (synchronously and asynchronously) and each of these people may choose their own path. Some want to go alone for the time being, only with a compass, others together and with a precise road map. I think we talk too often about paths and not often enough about the right meeting point and time.

bluhumi (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:37:59 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=hstqN496ToaaectgC) IMHO direction must not be defined by future goals, cause they fake that we have time. We have to move now!

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:38:03 GMT):
What i like here in particular is that Gitta addresses roles, functions and effects of educational systems.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:41:18 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=z9p2f8DveapkaiYwm) Im not talking about goals, I´m talking about clear problems. The problems lie in the systems and the interrelationship of systems. Experimenting on them just for the purpose to experiment is danger. However, problems in that dimension are way to huge to grasp for any individual, therefore, break larger pieces into smaller. Its the direction that counts in the end and to adapt on the way. In no way you should fake that we got time, we dont have time.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:42:04 GMT):
Kids got one thing right, they solve a maze backwards and adapt on the way.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:43:42 GMT):
Of course we cannot go that linear here, and its not about that linearity in it. Its about thinking what is feasible and kick the ideas out that we already know (empircal) that do not work.

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:52:42 GMT):
So, welcome back to chat after this intense listening session on Youtube

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:54:23 GMT):
The questions I have collected were: goals and directions? new forms of collaboration? are experiments for a better life possible and feasible?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:55:12 GMT):
Did I miss anything you also would like to address? Shall we start with any of these questions first?

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:01:12 GMT):
Let us wait further three minutes before we go ahead with your questions, Stefan. People needed this break after intense panellists statements.

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:05:26 GMT):
Let's go!

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:05:50 GMT):
how do the breakout sessions work technically?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:06:20 GMT):
So in one of the breakout sessions, the following question was asked: what are you already doing today to achieve zero-waste cooking.

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:08:32 GMT):
Who is in the chat? Would you comment shortly?

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:08:47 GMT):
Christian Trutz

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:09:11 GMT):
Stefan

bluhumi (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:09:18 GMT):
another question: are you hopeful?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:09:42 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=rXifvmiWe4D6aE3F6) Of, course, otherwise why worry?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:10:08 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=rXifvmiWe4D6aE3F6) I dont know if i would call it that way, but I like to be a optimistic activist

christian.trutz (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:10:48 GMT):
I am always optimistic and hopeful ????

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:12:38 GMT):
What stimulates and enforces optimism with regard to the challenges and tasks ahead?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:13:35 GMT):
Daily experience with people and organisations who are contributing, caring and are impactful. Not all grassroots BTW

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:14:57 GMT):
Of course there is also frustration with people and structures who intentionally or unintended create obstacles

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:15:31 GMT):
Thus the questions about goals, directions and collaborations are valid in my daily work

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:16:59 GMT):
Thank you, Stefan! What do those individuals and organisations express as caring, any concrete examples?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:18:18 GMT):
Sure: https://oecd-opsi.org/projects/innovation-facets/ this group is marvelous and contributes to better public services which now has a lot in common with tackling climate crisis

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:18:41 GMT):
Or: https://doughnuteconomics.org/Creating-City-Portraits-Methodology.pdf Just beautiful. Just do it. Innovate your city too!

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:19:10 GMT):
And https://transitionshub.climate-kic.org/publications/visual-toolbox-for-system-innovation/ Thank you Climate KIC, love these people

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:20:30 GMT):
Then a more grassroot oriented but wonderful collaboration https://www.ecocivilisation.eu/en/home/

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:21:52 GMT):
Who of you here has worked with such organisations or the "Visual Toolbox" or similar tools? Sharing your experiences?

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:26:31 GMT):
Having stored the above resources I'd like to ask you further was there a *common red thread* when you look back to the statements by Dr. Frick and the panellists?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:28:26 GMT):
BTW if you can, no matter how old you are, what your status in your community is, your eductional background, join and co-create from neighbors to districts to cities, build a lab together and you get all the support you need https://doughnuteconomics.org I am really impressed by their work

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:30:34 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=z3EGLzHxgpk5GQctv) The comon read threat for me was: dont wait for the other (what for?), you can at any point in time decide and act (differently)

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:31:22 GMT):
BUT, big one, we are interdependent and thus, your stepping out, will have consequences on your life first.

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:31:56 GMT):
Are you ready, are your family members ready?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:33:20 GMT):
If you have children (I do), these are marvelous little conflicts. And no, the next generation is not always in favor of these consequences :)

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:34:00 GMT):
I bring this input, Stefan, to the other members of this chat. What is your take on Stefan's approach?, Markus, Christian ...

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:37:25 GMT):
Is there still anyone in the chat? Can you see, @juergengrosse.puppendahl ?

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:37:57 GMT):
I will check.

matthias.steines (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:41:32 GMT):
There are still people online - but it seems there is no additional input

franziska.seibel (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:41:43 GMT):
The climate issue is the one I don't consider enough in my life yet. I'm currently still in the phase where I waste less food, or none at all, and am happy that my car is still running well after 150,000 kilometers driven, because I'm still very dependent on it here in the province. After that, I will seriously consider whether I even need my own car anymore. The positive examples linked here help a lot. Sometimes I think it would help people to have a central place, both digital and analog, where they can turn to with their wish "I want to do something for the climate". That's why it's so important that we learn to navigate the complex world. When you talk to people directly, without any detours, you often find that they want to make a small difference, but are overwhelmed by the possibilities.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:43:09 GMT):
thanks for that input

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:44:52 GMT):
I like your car story. I never had one. Although my family has, on the country side. I am favored living in cities with the best public transport in the world. Small differences which gives us the capabilities to change. Structure creates behavior ;-)

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:45:06 GMT):
so one thing Jo said in conjunction to kids growing up, educational system and how people react to when she is cooking something that people might "conservative" about, is that it much about keep challenging and wow effects -> learning by doing, experimenting towards the challenge zero-waste food.

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:46:11 GMT):
To everyone here: Do you see Franziska's central place both digital and analogue as trail blazing?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:47:41 GMT):
Zero-waste food became a wow effect? My grandparents and my parents did not know the name, but it was the general societal practice.

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:50:46 GMT):
I am suggesting a pause for 10 minutes until 6 pm. We are coming together again here in the chat. If there are no further inputs and you agree we provide the links to the break-out session for you. See you at 6 pm!

kristin.eissfeldt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:51:19 GMT):
also breakouts are going in 10 minute break now

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:51:53 GMT):

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:55:42 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day1_Climate-Catastrophe?msg=jPdWkyaqRioGcjLQx) It became a wow effect for those who are sceptical and then learned from the experiment - and in that conjunction "it is about" wow'ing people through learning

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:56:52 GMT):
and please dont forget from a historical point that a lot of people have been raised in a wealthy system, highly standardized and never experienced food that is non standard. its a multi-perspective read.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 16:57:42 GMT):
however, I can totally agree that we can learn from our grandparents in those regards. In Jo's session we also scratched this

juergengrosse.puppendahl (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 17:03:14 GMT):
Being back here are there more important thoughts or ideas you like to share? Otherwise I would invite you to join the breakout-session? OK?

stefan.blachfellner (Sat, 06 Nov 2021 17:58:52 GMT):
Thank you all
