Hello everybody

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:07:07 GMT):
Here are a few questions I spontaneously asked myself after the keynote: 1. how can we bring the use and increased awareness of AI, algorithm's, mining our data for commercial purposes etc. into education? 2. how can we finally use the possibilities of AI so that we as humans have to work less physically and instead can invest our time in education, sports and other things. So far, it is rather so that we are overwhelmed by the offer and instead of more time, have much less time. 3) How can we use AI in such a way that the resources of our planet, which are running out, are distributed in such a way that we leave no one behind, that we distribute more fairly and avoid violence and war over resources?

p.volland (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:10:08 GMT):
I am CEO of a small company called RTechS. We are mainly active in the automotive project management and also a small team supports IT firms with their programing tasks. So KI is of course a topic which I experience daily during my tasks at work :-)

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:10:33 GMT):
Thx @dominik.ortelt for those questions! Nr. 1: In Switzerland, various initiatives are currently underway in this direction.

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:11:45 GMT):
Thx, @p.volland : Is trustworthiness also an issue?

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:12:41 GMT):
@kathleen.engel , welcome back to the conferences!

matthias.steines (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:12:51 GMT):
cadell.last

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:13:42 GMT):
Hi @cadell.last ! Glad you made it!

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:14:30 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=3wTmwwGc5ZKPiQdEx) Thanks, good to be here

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:14:56 GMT):
Hello, I am the "online forum expert"! I can assure you I am just another person looking to learn. Excited to play with you all.

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:18:43 GMT):
I wasnt aware off that Julian helps the venus project <3

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:19:43 GMT):
@dominik.ortelt I think one of the interesting aspects of Bart the Hippo's presentation was that we move from commercial models to commons models. How would this apply to education? How could we think an educational commons?

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:20:30 GMT):
@dominik.ortelt I like the idea that we could use technology so that we have more time, and not less. Somehow we are living in a world where the very same technologies that were supposed to free up our lives, have created a big mess, and now we never stop working! Ahhhh!

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:21:42 GMT):
well @cadell.last the quick answer would be formwelt :-)

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:22:44 GMT):
@dominik.ortelt this third question about avoiding violence/war is of course important. Here I think we need more philosophy about the reality of human nature, as technology may be bringing us more to face ourselves (our motives, intentions and so forth).

p.volland (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:22:51 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=wDs6aYsTyfEejWMN3) As always, this is an big issue with new "stuff". At the end it depends on experience and also the main goals in useage of KI. You know in the automotive sector the goals are sometimes easy to describe. less time, less money and higher quality...

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:23:03 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=j258nQrMSCZg9HZvz) @Dominik, to question 2. I work in social work mainly physically difficult, means domestic support and care for people in need of care. From my point of view, it is not yet an issue how and when such activities can be facilitated by means of AI .

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:23:07 GMT):
@dominik.ortelt could you expand a bit on the "quick answer"?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:25:49 GMT):
when children are allowed to share, talk and think without artificial borders and across all nations (because these are also artificial borders). Putting their models to the test and reflecting on them with each other is a big step forward. Maybe then we'll be able to do something that I think we've been doing wrong for decades - stop dividing subjects and disciplines and instead put connections back in the foreground. In my opinion, teachers will have more of a support function in the future. children should be allowed to work out their own problems, bring them along, and look for new solutions together.

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:29:10 GMT):
@dominik.ortelt sounds great! Is this what Formwelt aims to achieve? (i.e. to get rid of artificial borders across all nations?). Please educate me more!

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:30:10 GMT):
@kathleen.engel Thanks for your important comment. I think AI and robotics could also become a help here, namely to assist in a re-design of the environment that makes you work hard physically. This includes the development of aids, equipment, etc. so that you have to work less physically hard and can do much more of what an AI will not replace. Being a human being that helps another human being.

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:30:41 GMT):
Hi @kathleen.engel do you mean that it is not clear yet how we can reduce physical labour with AI?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:33:42 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=m4r6pxv6o2a9SGQo4) What formwelt wants to achieve is better read on the website and in the materials available. The statement I made is the pure potential on hand with the linguistic system, the coding language for language and meaning.

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:35:07 GMT):
Thanks @dominik.ortelt that is some amazing potential!

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:35:22 GMT):
indeed

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:36:26 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=BMRjykAyAMkpeGbJf) Thanks Dominik, yes that would be great, because what you said in your last sentence, "being a human being helping another" is already always part of my work, only then you could disregard other facts more and focus more on the human. That would be great.

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:38:47 GMT):
Hello everyone! A very interesting topic today. I was wondering the following after the keynotes: is there an effort to ethically restrict the use of AI in certain areas, such as weapons technology?

dominik.ortelt (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:38:52 GMT):
This is one of the things that bugs me most with AI and all tech available. It should help society to develop, yet we do not utilize the potentials except for a few corps and people that increase their personal status, reach and power.

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:41:09 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=Z3oEyAsdxqjfSekCC) Yes, there are some. It even a UN topic of the security board

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:41:48 GMT):
For by far the most important question today is how do we make AI trustworthy when trust is built on experience and solidified or weakened in interactions. how do we program relational capability into an AI

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:42:07 GMT):
Where can one learn more about this?

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:42:48 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=5jib8wDT4M8RbpSLt) Hey Cadell, yes, how that could go I think is already clear, to me at least. I just think that there is little to no impetus for it at the moment. According to my observation, everything that is new and facilitating is not desirable, I often speak against walls when I address such ideas.

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:43:02 GMT):
I mean, is the UN's work on this issue public?

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:45:14 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=LrEaPkeZEfS7ewDFZ) how public I do not know

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:46:38 GMT):
@kathleen.engel I know well the feeling of "speaking against walls"! That can be very frustrating, indeed. Does it have something to do with the point Bart the Hippo makes in his keynote about capitalization versus embedding more of a commons model for this technological revolution?

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:47:39 GMT):
I actually meant who sets the ethical guidelines and what do they look like.

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:49:50 GMT):
The question of ethical guidelines and restrictions is really important. I would love to see the speakers talk more on this point.

wolfgang.stief (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:51:58 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=Mn7MBeaB9iX7DrS3f) This might be a good starting point (PDF): https://unite.un.org/sites/unite.un.org/files/unite_paper_-_ethical_ai_at_the_un.pdf

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:52:31 GMT):
Thx @wolfgang.stief

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:53:47 GMT):
Thanks Wolfgang! (y)

wolfgang.stief (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:54:37 GMT):
You're welcome :-) I just did a quick search on "un ai ethics"

andreas.schwietzke (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:54:56 GMT):
This is exactly what I was looking for!

matthias.steines (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:55:49 GMT):
thanks for raising the ethical topic same goes for biases which are inevitably but maybe unconsciously will go into the training data and algorithms of the AI

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:55:58 GMT):
Was something not mentioned or did you discover a blind spot that we should definitely shine a light on?

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:58:50 GMT):
how machines can help us build cultures of trust? A very interesting topic today. I was wondering the following after the keynotes: is there an effort to ethically restrict the use of AI in certain areas, such as weapons technology? 1. how can we bring the use and increased awareness of AI, algorithm's, mining our data for commercial purposes etc. into education? 2. how can we finally use the possibilities of AI so that we as humans have to work less physically and instead can invest our time in education, sports and other things. patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 15:59:10 GMT):
We would take those questions into the breakout session. Did we forget one? @cadell.last ?

cadell.last (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:03:18 GMT):
I think @dominik.ortelt also made some good points about Formwelt's potential in relationship to artificial boundaries/borders and the future of education that focuses on connections over divisions.

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:05:31 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=42LZtZSSJemZhvrvC) @dominik.ortelt , what question can we take into the breakout session?

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:07:51 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=KzsGyMEmjfXbxxJ8q) I'm not sure Cadell, for me there are many components working into each other that I can hardly put into one sentence. Resources, communication, education, climate, AI, physical labor in social work, me as a worker. sorry. My impression is that it seems to be currently not wanted from many sides that AI can and should facilitate work. Employees are afraid to lose their jobs, employers their customers and service business and so on.

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:18:21 GMT):
Guys, I have a direct line into the breakout session. What else should we definitely ask the experts, have we forgotten anything? @kathleen.engel : how do we prevent AI from killing our jobs and getting more free time in a different way than intended

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:22:46 GMT):
I'd like to invite you to join us directly in the breakout session to discuss these exciting topics further. Please participate as it suits you. Listen, join the conversation, however you like. Here is the link:

kathleen.engel (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:22:55 GMT):
[ ](https://chat.larnaca-conferences.org/channel/Day7_AI-and-Robotics?msg=BT4nS4macqwPNcWHB) No, I don't think AI's would destroy our jobs, on the contrary. They could make our (physical) work much easier, leaving more time/resources for human work!

matthias.steines (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 16:29:34 GMT):

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 17:05:57 GMT):
Dear all, thank you for the great exchange and the wonderful questions. We would now stop the moderation and move into the breakout session. Things are heating up there right now! If you feel like listening, you are welcome! Here is the link again:

patrick.kappeler (Sat, 27 Nov 2021 17:08:10 GMT):
